Sydney Welcomes the Lions as Cameroon’s Diaspora Mobilises

In the heart of Sydney, members of the Cameroon KNECT association stroll through the city streets, eager to catch a glimpse of their national heroes, the Cameroon national football team.Their destination: the Jubilee Stadium. Inside the stadium, the national team is holding a training session.

The exercise is scheduled to be behind closed doors, yet on this occasion the Cameroonian diaspora group is exceptionally granted access.On the pitch, focus and discipline are evident. Head coach David Pagou closely supervises his players as the session gathers intensity.

Training is organised in separate drills: the outfield players work on tactical exercises on one side, while the goalkeepers sharpen their reflexes on the other.Meanwhile, some members of the diaspora capture the moment on their phones, filming the scene with the Lions in the background, a memory they are keen to preserve.During a brief break, the visitors seize the opportunity to present a symbolic gift to the head of delegation, Pascal Abunde. They hand over a jersey of the Australia national soccer team, intended as a gesture for the president of the Cameroonian Football Federation as well as for the national team’s coach.

According to Carol Manga, this symbolic gesture reflects the spirit of friendship between the two nations and carries particular significance for the Cameroonian community living in Australia.Members of Cameroon KNECT are now preparing to mobilise even more supporters.

Their aim is to turn out in large numbers this Friday, 27 March 2026, to cheer on the Lions when they face Australia in Sydney.For the Cameroonian diaspora, it will be more than just a match, it will be a moment of pride, unity and unwavering support for the Lions thousands of miles away from home.
